Police investigate incidents at elementaries, junior highs

Lawrence Police were called Monday to South Junior High School to investigate an alleged assault of a teacher.

Julie Boyle, the Lawrence school district’s communications director, said a student allegedly attempted to harm a teacher, but no one was injured.

Other school incidents involving Lawrence Police:

Police were at Sunflower School to investigate a report of burned matchbooks found Monday morning on the ground near a portable classroom. Burned matchbooks also were found nearby last week at Sunflower.

Police were called to Langston Hughes School regarding a student who was allegedly in possession of drug paraphernalia at school on Friday. The student was suspended.

A 14-year-old student at West Junior High School was allegedly found in possession of marijuana on school grounds. The student was suspended, and police were called.

Comedy club owner admits to role in KC cocaine ring

Kansas City, Mo. A Kansas City night club owner admitted Tuesday that he was part of a cocaine distribution ring, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Craig Norton Glazer, co-owner of Stanford & Sons comedy club in this city’s Westport entertainment district, pleaded guilty to one felony count of conspiracy to distribute cocaine, U.S. Atty. Todd Graves said.

Glazer, 48, is free on bond.
