Delk, Rogers propel Celts

? This was why the Boston Celtics acquired Rodney Rogers and Tony Delk.

Paul Pierce scored 28 points, Rogers had 15 and Delk added 12, leading the Celtics to a 100-94 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night.

Boston had lost four straight since trading Joe Johnson, Milt Palacio and this year’s first-round pick to Phoenix for Delk and Rogers.

“We’ve been trying to get more comfortable,” Rogers said. “This was a good one for us.”

Allen Iverson, coming off consecutive 40-point performances, scored 28, but missed 22 of his 30 shots.

The Sixers, who had won three in a row, missed an opportunity to move into a three-way tie with Boston and Orlando for second place in the Atlantic Division and the No. 4 spot in the Eastern Conference.

“We really wanted this game a lot,” Iverson said. “It’s a setback. We have to get back on track Wednesday.”

After squandering a nine-point lead in the third quarter, Philadelphia scored six straight to close within 87-86 with 4:33 left. But Rogers made a putback, got fouled and hit the free throw to extend Boston’s lead to 90-86.

A three-point play by Eric Snow cut it to 91-89 with 2:59 left, but Walter McCarty scored on a driving layup and put back a miss by Pierce to make it 95-89 with 1:51 left.

The Sixers didn’t get closer than four the rest of the way.

Hawks 95, Grizzlies 76

Atlanta  Toni Kukoc matched a season high with 24 points and Shareef Abdur-Rahim had 23 as Atlanta beat Memphis for its second straight win. Memphis has lost eight straight, 10 of 11 and 21 of 24. Dropping to 0-7 in Atlanta, the Grizzlies lowered their Western Conference-worst road record to 6-26.

The Hawks’ lead was comfortable enough that Abdur-Rahim, facing his former team for the first time at home, didn’t play in the fourth quarter.

Jazz 100, Nuggets 82

Salt Lake City  Karl Malone scored 21 points and Utah scored 33 points off 28 turnovers.

Reserve Donyell Marshall scored 17 points, and John Stockton added 14 as Utah beat Denver for the 12th straight time at home and won for the eighth time in 10 games.

Blazers 107, Kings 95

Portland, Ore. Â Bonzi Wells scored 20 points and Portland extended its season-best winning streak to 10 games.

Dale Davis had 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Blazers, who are 23-5 in their last 28 games and winners of 11 of 12 since the All-Star break. Scottie Pippen added 19 points, six rebounds and five assists.
