Conference Tournaments: Davidson earns berth

? Peter Anderer scored 19 of his 22 points in the second half to rally Davidson to a 62-57 victory over Furman on Sunday and give the Wildcats their first Southern Conference title in four years.

Davidson (21-9) made the NCAA tournament for the seventh time and second time under coach Bob McKillop. The Wildcats, in winning their 11th straight game against Furman (17-14), also ended the Paladins worst-to-first run at their first NCAA trip in 22 years.

Davidson’s leading tournament scorer, Emeka Erege, was sidelined after he was cut above his eye in the semifinals.

Anderer, voted the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, made five of his six three-pointers in the second half, bringing Davidson back from a 34-28 deficit with a 16-6 run. He made the two clinching free throws with 7.8 seconds to go.

UMKC 70, S. Utah 57

Fort Wayne, Ind. Michael Watson scored 23 points in the second half to help UMKC to a win over defending Mid-Continent Tournament champion Southern Utah. The Kangaroos (18-10) will play Valparaiso in the first semifinal game at 6 tonight.
