The 10th Annual Choreographer’s Showcase will be presented at 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday at the Lawrence Arts Center, 200 W. Ninth St.

Ten choreographers and more than 40 dancers will perform in styles that include modern dance, jazz, ballet, ballroom, Eastern dance and performance art. The concert also will mark the last dance performance in the arts center’s present performance hall.

New this year is Storling Dance Theatre of Overland Park, a modern dance theater company that will perform three works: “Cleansing” and “Joan’s Prayer,” choreographed by Amy Meyers, and an excerpt from “Prodigal Daughter,” choreographed by Mona Evans.

Reach  a movement collective inc. will present “Ice,” by Andrea Wescott. The piece explores the qualities of ice as it freezes, drips and melts. It is a slow meditative work performed by three dancers.

Megan Jensen will perform “I’m Outta Love,” a solo with an upbeat and energetic feel. “Fever,” choreographed by Molly Gordon to the music of Peggy Lee, is a blend of classical jazz lines and long extensions.

Ballroom dancers Blue and Shirley Barrand will present two duets, one in the classical elegance of ballroom dancing and the other in the popular swing dance form.

The Lawrence Ballet Ensemble will perform four pieces choreographed by Deborah Bettinger. “Synchronized Swimming” takes the precision and interesting patterns of swimming out of the pool and onto the dance floor. “Paisley” and the third section of “Die Vogel” display the beauty of ballet. For a comic interlude, Bettinger will premiere “Pushing Up the Daisies,” a piece that combines gardening and dance.

Jo Anne Zingo-Hargis and Cynthia Willsey of Troupe Ragsidad will perform a collaborative work with the radio show “Retro Cocktail Hour” in a piece titled “Retro Cocktail Fantasy.” The troupe also will perform “Gypsy Kashlimar” and “Bedouin Wedding.”

Jan Wiens will present a meditative work titled “Oasis/The Silver Strand.”

The Prairie Wind Dancers and Prairie Wind Two will perform “Drama for A Winter Night (Fifth Avenue),” created for the Langston Hughes festival by company member Kimber Andrews. The piece will be performed only on Saturday night.

The Prairie Wind Dancers also will perform two sections of “Another Bad Love Song,” choreographed by Andrews.

Tickets are $6 for students and senior citizens and $8 for general admission. Tickets are available at the door.
