Dales earns Big 12 honor

? Oklahoma’s Stacey Dales, who leads the No. 5 Sooners in scoring and assists, on Friday was named Big 12 Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Dales scored 16.7 points per game for the Sooners (24-3, 14-2), who have won three straight regular-season conference titles. Dales, a guard from Brockville, Ontario, Canada, also averaged five assists per game.

Kansas State’s Deb Patterson was selected as the Big 12 Coach of the Year after leading the No. 14 Wildcats to a 23-6 record, 11-5 in the conference. Last season, Kansas State finished 2-14 in the conference.

The awards were announced as part of the All-Big 12 Conference Team, chosen by conference head coaches.

Texas’ Heather Schreiber was the Freshman of the Year. Schreiber, from Windthorst, Texas, averaged 14.4 points and six rebounds this year.

Keasha Cannon of Nebraska was the Newcomer of the Year. The junior from Kansas City, Kan., averaged 13.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
