Charges filed in shooting incident

A Lawrence woman was charged Thursday with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, the result of a shooting incident that occurred a week ago.

Lori K. Hoy, 2769 Harper St., is being held in the Douglas County Jail on $100,000 bond. Hoy was arrested Wednesday by Lawrence Police after she was released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Sgt. Mark Warren said.

About 9:30 p.m. Feb. 22, police were called to the Lawrence Holidome, 200 McDonald Drive, to investigate reports of a person described as suicidal, Warren said. Holidome staff had received reports about a woman acting suspiciously and had gone to her room to check on her, Warren said. An employee heard a gunshot fired inside the room, and staff called police.

Officers went to the room, knocked on the door and identified themselves but got no response, Warren said. Officers were in the process of opening the door with a key supplied by the Holidome when they heard another gunshot.

Police found two bullets had been fired into the floor near the door, Warren said. Officers also learned the woman had been on the telephone with someone from the Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center. The woman was taken to the hospital for psychiatric help, Warren said.

Hoy is to appear in Douglas District County Court again at 2 p.m. Monday.
