Champion wrestlers set for Haskell fund-raiser

Former National Wrestling Alliance World Heavyweight Champion “Handsome” Harley Race will be in Lawrence on Saturday, where he will be host to a five-match wrestling card at Haskell Indian Nations University’s Coffin Complex. The evening’s events, which include picture-taking with Race, begin at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Race won eight world titles between 1973 and 1985.

The main event will feature James “the Big Cat” Ladd, son of former Kansas City Chief Ernie Ladd, taking on “The Drill Instructor” for the World League Wrestling heavyweight championship.

Also, Heather Savage will defend her ladies’ crown against “Miss Natural.”

A portion of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to the Haskell baseball club. Advance tickets are available at the Haskell Student Activity Center, Sport to Sport, and Play It Again Sports.
