Show teaches children about U.S. history

Ottawa  The Wichita Children’s Theatre will present “Yankee Doodle” at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ottawa Municipal Auditorium, Third and Hickory.

The show includes nearly 100 historical characters, ranging from Paul Revere to Charles Lindbergh, plus storybook sets, costumes and props.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for youths under 18. Tickets are available at the auditorium 30 minutes before each show.

Tattoo artist giving lecture at museum

Artist Don Ed Hardy will explore his personal vision of printmaking, painting and tattooing during a lecture at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Helen Spencer Foresman Museum of Art at Kansas University.

The lecture, titled “Tradition, Transformation and Tattoos,” is free and open to the public.

Hardy, among the best known of living tattoo artists, has become a master of the craft while continuing to work in the more traditional media of paintings and drawings.

The art forms in his works include late medieval to early Renaissance Northern European prints, Japanese ukioy-e culture, Song dynasty Chinese painting, Aztec and Mayan forms, eccentric modern masters and early 20th-century American tattoo iconography.

Hardy has a bachelor’s degree from the San Francisco Art Institute.
