The board will be asked to spend $472,146 on 460 new computers.

This contract with Microtech Computers of Lawrence would swallow a big chunk of the district’s $1.2 million capital outlay account for technology.

Computers would be distributed this way: Free State High School, 190; Lawrence High School, 125; school support staff throughout the district, 145.

Background

Supt. Randy Weseman said the computers would replace units more than 5 years old that weren’t adequately supported by the district’s existing network structure.

He said money for the deal would be drawn from the capital outlay fund, which can’t be used to hire teachers.

LHS will get new computers for its business and journalism departments and library computer lab. At Free State, all lab and teacher computers will be upgraded.
