Lenexa to celebrate holiday with parade

Lenexa Lenexa Community Days Parade is at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Old Town Lenexa district, Santa Fe and Pflumm streets. The parade’s theme is “One Nation United.”

Featured at the parade are the Boys and Girls Clubs Marching Cobras, Osceola High School Marching Chiefs, Louie-Louie Marching Band, Spring Hill Marching Percussion Drum Line and the Shriners from the Abdallah Temple.

Powell Gardens plans Booms and Blooms fest

Kingsville, Mo. The Powell Gardens will celebrate the Fourth of July holiday with its annual Booms and Blooms Festival on Saturday and July 7.

Saturday’s events include jazz vocalist and pianist Candace Evans, 3 p.m.-5 p.m.; a Patriotic Pops concert by Missouri Chamber Orchestra, 7:30 p.m.; and fireworks, 9:30 p.m. Sunday’s events include the Spirit of Independence Concert Band concert, 1 p.m.-3 p.m.

A daylily sale, children’s crafts, Jurassic Garden exhibit and expert gardening advice from horticulture staff will be offered on both days.
