Old home town – 40 and 100 years ago today

IN 1962 – Kansas University and Peace Corps officials completed the signing of a new contract involving study and service programs in Costa Rica.

IN 1902 – On June 29, 1902, the Lawrence Journal told of “sidewalk superintendents” who were reviewing the work of the street paving contractors. The Journal noted that these “superintendents” were in their own minds experts and commented “With such practical knowledge as this to rely upon, the wonder is that the contractors do not take a vacation, and let some two or three of the sidewalk gang boss the work. It is short-sightedness on the part of the contractors that they do not do this. …The bosses and the workmen would feel lonesome if the sidewalk gang should become offended and refuse to stand by while the work is going on.”
