Corey waits for results, keeps quiet on drug use

New York Mets pitcher Mark Corey waited to hear from doctors Friday on what caused his seizure near Shea Stadium, and refused comment on his reported marijuana use shortly before his collapse.

Corey was stricken Wednesday night shortly after the Mets’ 6-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves. On Friday, Newsday said the player admitted smoking marijuana just before falling ill in a parking lot outside a hotel.

The reliever, now on the 15-day disabled list, underwent tests and hoped to get the results within the next day. He was not with the Mets as they opened a three-game stand at Yankee Stadium in another round of Subway Series interleague play.

Asked whether marijuana could have caused his problem, he said: “I’m open to that.”

Corey, however, would not discuss any other detail involving marijuana.

Thome wants to stay following Colon trade

Cleveland Sitting a few feet from the bat rack in the familiar surroundings of the Cleveland Indians’ dugout, Jim Thome looked right at home.

He was. And he’s in no hurry to leave.

With his name seeming to pop up in a new trade rumor every hour, Thome said Friday he has not been asked by the Indians to waive his no-trade clause.

“Nobody has come up to me and asked me to be traded,” he said. “I don’t want to be traded. I want to stay here and go home to Aurora (Ohio) every day.”
