Miracle rally past Liberty to win fourth straight

? Nykesha Sales scored 25 of her career high-tying 29 points in the second half and the Orlando Miracle rallied to beat the slumping New York Liberty 77-65 for their fourth straight win Sunday.

Shannon Johnson added 17 points, 14 after halftime, and nine rebounds for the Miracle. She made 12 of 15 free throws, both career highs.

The 52-point second half by Orlando (7-3) was its season best, as was its 19 free throws after the break.

New York (7-6), losers of three straight and four of its last five, got 16 points and eight rebounds from Tari Phillips.

Mystics 63, Rockers 45

Washington Chamique Holdsclaw had 18 points and 15 rebounds to lead Washington over Cleveland.

The Mystics played without starters Annie Burgess (lower back strain) and Stacy Dales-Schuman (stomach virus). They were replaced in the lineup by guard Audrey Sauret and forward Murriel Page, who had a season-high 15 points and six rebounds in her third start of the season.

Chasity Melvin led Cleveland (3-6) with 10 points and four rebounds.

Coco Miller scored 12 points for the Mystics (9-2), who’ve won six in a row at home.

Comets 71, Fire 58

Portland, Ore. Tina Thompson scored a career-high 31 points and Sheryl Swoopes added 17 as Houston won for the seventh time in eight games. Houston (9-3) committed 21 turnovers but shot 57 percent. The Comets also used strong backcourt pressure and an 11-0 run in the second half to take control.

Alisa Burras and LaQuanda Barksdale each had 10 points for the Fire (4-7), who lost their second straight after winning four of five. Jackie Stiles had another disappointing game, scoring six points in 14 minutes. She has been slowed by heel and wrist injuries.

Storm 86, Monarchs 60

Seattle Kamila Vodichkova scored 15 points and rookie Sue Bird had 14 points and seven assists as Seattle beat Sacramento. The Storm (6-6), who had a season-high 24 assists, beat Sacramento for the first time in eight games.

Tangela Smith scored 14 points and Kedra Holland-Corn had 10 for the Monarchs (2-8), who are winless in eight games on the road this season.

Mercury 70, Lynx 61

Phoenix Lisa Harrison scored 14 points and Susanna Bonfiglio and Adriana Moises each had 11 as Phoenix beat Minnesota.

Adrain Williams had nine rebounds for Phoenix (6-3).

Minnesota (4-7) lost its fourth in a row, despite Tamika Williams’ 19 points and 12 rebounds.
