Pratt ? Early migratory bird seasons approved by the Wildlife and Parks Commission are nearly identical to last year’s, with one notable exception.

Dove season will be in two segments the first from Sept. 1 through Oct. 27 and the second from Nov. 9 through Nov. 11.

The split season will provide additional dove hunting opportunity for upland bird hunters participating in opening weekend of the state’s pheasant and quail season, which opens Nov. 9.

The early teal season was set for Sept. 14-29 statewide, with a bag and possession limit of 4 and 8, respectively, but could be reduced to Sept. 14-21 in the High Plains Zone (western Kansas), depending on final frameworks approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Other seasons set by the Commission are:

September Canada goose season Sept. 6-15. (Two units around Wichita, Topeka Lawrence and Kansas City. Bag and possession limits of 3 and 6).

Rail (Sora and Virginia) Sept. 1-Nov. 9. Bag and possession limits of 25 and 25.

Snipe Sept. 1-Dec. 16. Bag and possession limits of 8 and 16.

Woodcock Oct. 12-Nov. 25. Bag and possession limits of 3 and 6.

The Commission also approved furbearer seasons, including establishment of a single statewide unit by eliminating the current eastern and western unit system.

Furbearer seasons approved by the Commission are:

Hunting and trapping Nov. 13 through Feb. 15.

beaver trapping Nov. 13 through March 31.

running March 1 through Nov. 1.
