Native American All-Star Game: Organizers hope for local support

Jeff Bigger thinks tonight’s Native American All-Star football game at Haskell Stadium will be a “slobber-knocker.”

But how many people will show up for the 7:30 p.m. kickoff?

“If we draw close to 2,000, we’ll make it an official event here,” said Bigger, a Tulsa scouting combine director who has been the driving force behind the game.

Other states, particularly Oklahoma, would like to play host to the game, Bigger said, but he stressed he wants to keep it on the Haskell Indians Nations University campus.

“We think this is the perfect environment for the game,” he said. “The kids are in a nice dorm and the stadium is nice, and it’s cost-effective for us.

“But the bottom line is we’ve got to sell tickets.”

Tickets cost $5 and will be available at all three entrances to Haskell Stadium, including the arch.

The public is also invited to a combine workout at 9 a.m. today on the practice field south of the stadium. Bigger and his staffers will be timing anyone who wants to participate. Sign-up is at 8:30 a.m.
