Driver’s license stations to close

? The state plans to close 12 driver’s license exam stations to save money.

The Department of Revenue said Thursday it would close a quarter of the total number of stations operates. Expected savings are $120,000 a year.

The department operates 48 full-service stations in 45 counties, where people can apply for their first Kansas license, renew an existing one and take driving tests.

In another 65 counties, county treasurers operate sites where drivers only can renew their licenses.

The stations to be closed include the Parklane station in Wichita, and stations in Baxter Springs, Belleville, Coffeyville, Fort Scott, Greensburg, Hugoton, Kingman, Larned, Leoti, Ness City, Smith Center. Most are open one or two days a week, but the Wichita station is open four days a week.
