Marie L. Koehler

? She was born July 27, 1917, on a farm in Douglas County, the daughter of Orie Leslie and Edna Ann (Turner) Smith. She grew up on a farm near Lone Star Lake. She was a graduate of Lawrence High School and Lawrence Business College.

Mrs. Koehler was a bookkeeper at Karlan’s Furniture Store, Topeka, and later at Capitol Federal Savings and Loan. After her daughter was born, she became a homemaker and was active in her Extension Homemakers Unit for more than 50 years until her death.

She was a member of Potwin Presbyterian Church for more than 40 years, where she was deacon and was a member of its Anchor-Mariners and Women’s Dorcas Assn., and chaired the sewing group for many years. She was active in the PTO at her daughter’s schools and made the Gage School flag as a gift from her daughter’s class. She also was a member of Group VI of Stormont Vail Medical Auxiliary, AARP, Active Primetimers and Topeka Travel Club.

She married Raymond H. Koehler on Sept. 25, 1938. He died Oct. 10, 1990.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Sue Anderson, Topeka; and four grandchildren.
