Konzem, Kempf promoted

Richard Konzem and Gary Kempf have been promoted within the Kansas University athletic department.

Kansas AD Al Bohl announced Thursday that Konzem will become senior associate athletic director and Kempf will be an assistant athletic director.

In addition, Janelle Martin has become permanent senior women’s administrator.

Konzem, who will be starting his 22nd year in the department this fall, had been listed as associate athletic director. He supervises football, men’s and women’s basketball and baseball as well as the Williams Fund and the ticket office.

Kempf has been director of operations for the last year. Kempf, who worked 24 years as a KU swim coach, will supervise soccer, softball, rowing, track and cross country. He also will be in charge of the speed and strength department and handle coach advising/mentoring.

Martin, who is also an associate athletics director, had been interim senior women’s administrator since last fall. She will continue to oversee rules compliance and also supervise swimming, golf, volleyball and tennis.

Mitch Germann has been promoted to director of media relations and Janay Leddy associate director of media relations.
