Andrews services

Baldwin Services for Jim Richard Andrews, 86, Baldwin, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Baldwin Church of Christ. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka.

Mr. Andrews died Monday, June 17, 2002, at Baldwin Care Center. He had lived in Baldwin since 1953.

He was born Oct. 30, 1915, in Dwight, the son of Alba A. and Mildred (LaHue) Andrews. He grew up in Dwight and graduated from Dwight High School in 1932.

Mr. Andrews served in the Army during World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater with the 120th Ordnance Company. Awards included the Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Unit Plaque, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the American Defense Service Medal.

He worked as a pipefitter and welder in Baldwin from Local Union 763, Lawrence. He retired in 1980. After retirement, he volunteered in the Tax Counseling for the Elderly program and delivered meals for the Senior Center.

Mr. Andrews was a member of Baldwin Church of Christ. He was a life member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 763, receiving his 50-year pin in 1997. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of American Legion Post 228.

He married Lillian Rose Howe on April 6, 1946, in Clinton, Mo. She died Nov. 23, 1991.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Andrews, Baldwin; two sons, Richard and Alba, both of Baldwin; two sisters, Esther Tardino, Warsaw, Mo., and Alice Cornett, Harrison, Ark.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. today at Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home, Baldwin, where the family will receive friends from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today.
