Tours to show off Topeka water gardens

Topeka The 11th Annual Topeka Pond Tour will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and June 23. The tour will feature 11 water gardens.

Maps and tickets can be purchased in advance at Puddles N Pads Water Garden, 4111 W. 16th, or on the days of the tours at 2600 S.W. Tutbury Town Road.

Tickets are $5 a person; children under 12 are free. Proceeds go to benefit community water garden projects and educational programs in the Topeka area.

BBQ teams face off in state championship

Lenexa The 21st Annual Great Lenexa Barbeque Battle will be from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park in Lenexa.

Grilligan’s Island, the Briskateers and 173 other teams will compete for the Kansas state championship.

A variety of activities will be offered, including a children’s area, and music will be provided by the Beatle tribute band, Abbey Road.

Admission is $3 on Friday and $1 on Saturday. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
