Wichita art exhibit seeking entrants

Wichita The CityArts Sixth Annual Juried Art Exhibition is seeking entries from artists who are 16 and older.

A $25 fee will allow the artist to enter up to three works. Deadline is Aug. 1.

Sherry Leedy from the Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art Gallery in Kansas City, Mo., is the juror. There are cash prizes for best of show, second place and third place.

Trip to Greece inspires paintings

Lawrence artist Celia Smith is showing an exhibition of acrylic on paper paintings based on a 2001 trip she made to Greece.

The exhibit, “Remembering Greece: sketches from a memorable trip,” will run through June 26 at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

State fair adds bands to lineup

Hutchinson Nickelback and O-Town will perform at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson.

Nickelback, known for such hits as “How You Remind Me,” will appear Sept. 13.

O-Town, who gained fame from the ABC reality series “Making the Band,” will appear Sept. 14.

Railroad auction, appraisal set in Topeka

Topeka “Planes, Trains and Automobiles, ” an auction and appraisal of railroad items, will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Great Overland Station, 701 N. Kansas Ave.

Attendees can bring railroad artifacts to be appraised. Fee is $5 per item.

Rides on the steam locomotive “The Challenger” will be auctioned at 2 p.m. The rides will be on June 25; one ride will go from Kansas City to Topeka, the other from Topeka to Marysville.

Other activities include aviation art, flight demonstrations, model plane exhibits, antique and classic cars, race cars, old military vehicles and a race car simulator.

Admission is $5; children 12 and under are free with an adult.
