St. John slates two nights of Mexican Fiesta

The 21st Annual Mexican Fiesta will be from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and June 22 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 1234 Ky. There is no admission charge.

Friday’s entertainment features the St. John’s Fiesta Dancers and La Ma Band from Topeka. On June 22, Mariachi Habanero, the St. John’s Fiesta Dancers and the Ilucion Norteand from Emporia will perform. Games and Mexican food will be available on June 22 only. For more information, call 843-0109.

Ventriloquist to appear at Mustard Seed

Kidzpectacular 2002 will be at 7 p.m. July 1-3 at Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship, 700 Wakarusa Drive. Featured performer is ventriloquist “Mister Dave” Winchell and Friends.

The program includes ventriloquism, puppets, music, cartooning, comedy, drama, theatrical staging and props.

A water baptism will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Calvary Temple to honor fathers

Fathers will be honored Sunday at the 10 a.m. worship service at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th Terrace. Everyone will receive a gift, with special gifts going to some fathers.

Meeting to form new fellowship set

A meeting to form a new Christian fellowship will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Museum of Christian History office, in suite 253 at the United Way of Douglas County building, 2518 Ridge Court.

The fellowship will be centered on Apostolic and Pentecostal principles, with the core goals of winning souls for Jesus Christ and helping members grow spiritually and personally in their knowledge of the Bible and the power of God. For more information, call 842-5838.

Wesleyan Church to meet at Holidome

Until its remodeling is done, Lawrence Wesleyan Church, 900 Madeline Lane, will be holding services in the Lawrence Holidome, 200 McDonald Drive.

Services will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday. Evangelist Dan Rudman will be the special speaker. A nursery and children’s church will be provided.

A church picnic and ministry fair will be offered after the 10 a.m. service June 23 in the Monterey Way shelter house at Dad Perry Park. The festivities will begin about 12:30 p.m. Each family should bring a main dish, a side dish, a 2-liter bottle of soda and lawn chairs.

Professor to talk about India, Pakistan

Rose Greaves, Kansas University history professor emeritus, will talk about the problems between India and Pakistan for the Adult Forum at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt.

Summer Sunday School begins at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the Godly Playroom. The school is for children age 3 through third grade.

Trinity Lutheran plans Vacation Bible School

“God’s Great Gallery” is the theme for Vacation Bible School at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H. The school, designed for children ages 3-11, will meet from 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Monday-Friday.

The children will engage in creative projects, music and Bible stories. A sack supper is available for a donation in the church’s Fellowship Hall. A nursery will be provided for those younger than 3.

Bible school takes on river-rafting theme

First Church of the Nazarene, 1470 N. 1000 Road, will offer Vacation Bible School to children age 4 through the sixth grade. The school will meet from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Monday-Friday.

The school will take participants on an river rafting-themed adventure to Son Canyon. Children will participate in singing, watching and participating in skits, creating crafts, playing games and discovering survival skills for living from the book of Proverbs.

West Side offers Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School at West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive, will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. June 24-28, with a light supper, and continue with lessons, crafts, music and recreation. Children age 4 through sixth grade are welcome.

During the summer, Church School for children in kindergarten through sixth grade will be after the children’s sermon in Fellowship Hall. Arts and crafts activities will be led by Elizabeth Gabel.

First Presbyterian says goodbye to Whitsitts

First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway, will celebrate a “simple worship” at 10:15 a.m. Sunday to say thank you and goodbye to Jerilyn and Landon Whitsitt.

Last fall, the Whitsitts began an alternative style of worship at 5 p.m. Sundays at the church. The Whitsitts will be moving in July to Louisville, Ky., where Landon Whitsitt will begin seminary work.

Eudora First Southern Baptist Church, Eudora, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host Imitate, a youth rally, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. June 22 at the Eudora city park, Ninth and Main.
