Jennings services

He was born March 13, 1918, in Norman, Okla., the son of William “Bud” and Faye (Winegarner) Jennings.

Mr. Jennings served as a captain in the Marine Corps during World War II and was stationed in the Pacific.

He received a bachelor’s degree in 1941 and a master’s degree in 1946 from the University of Oklahoma. He was an OU football letterman and All-American.

Mr. Jennings joined the OU football coaching staff in 1945. He was the head football coach at University of Nebraska from 1957 to 1961. His last coaching position began at Kansas University in 1962 and lasted four years.

He was the athletics director at Washburn University, Topeka. In 1996, he was inducted into the University of Nebraska Football Hall of Fame.

He married Mary Yetman Oct. 5, 1940, in Sulfur, Okla. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Jan Dicker, Lawrence, and Vicki Martin, St. Cloud, Minn.; a sister, Loretta Towner, Dallas; a brother, Roy L., Cherry Valley, Calif.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care of Douglas County, Trinity Respite or Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn., sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
