Raiders split in Hays meet

? Lawrence’s Raiders will play in the third-place game of the Hays Tournament today.

The Raiders blanked Hays, 4-0, behind the three-hit pitching of Ben Bieker, then fell in the semifinals to Wichita’s Sluggers, 8-0.

Today the Raiders, 2-2, at the tourney will meet the Kansas City Grays at 10 a.m. in the third-place game.

Kyle McManness singled to lead off the second game for the Raiders’ only hit off pitcher A.J. Knight. In the first game, Derek Bailey stole home in the second inning. Also, Troy Wingert slammed a pair of doubles.

“The first game we played very well,” Raiders’ skipper Carl Brooks said. “In the second game we weren’t as alert as we’d like to have been. Their pitcher pitched well and they played outstanding in the field. They made the plays. We just got beat.”

The Raiders are 5-4 overall.

Renegades 3

Overland Park  Lawrence’s Renegades fell to the Kansas City Monarchs, 5-3, in a Wood Bat Tournament game on Saturday night at 3&2 Fields.

Brett Urban and Carl Lisher doubled for the Renegades, who were to play Liberty, Mo., in a late Saturday game.
