Ron and Martha Young, Overbrook, announce the birth of a daughter, Bonnie Jean Young, born May 14, 2002, at Olathe Medical Center. She has a brother, Calvin, 2.

Mark Thompson and Theresa Noll-Thompson, Eudora, announce the birth of a son, Andrew Joseph Thompson, born May 17, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He has a brother, William, 9, and a sister, Laura, 5.

Friends and family are invited to a retirement party for Donna Thomas. The celebration will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at her home, 1295 E. 1600 Road. She is retiring after 26 years in the child-care business. She requests no gifts.

Angela and Scott Younkin, Lawrence, announce the birth of a son, Dakota Scott Younkin, born May 14, 2002, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. He has two brothers, Austin Higgins-Younkin and Cooper Younkin.

Shawn and Nathanael Millhouse, Lawrence, announce the birth of a daughter, Taylor Alexandra Millhouse, born May 15 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

Kristin Bock, a Baker University freshman, was recognized by the Kansas Associated Collegiate Press for students attending four-year private colleges. She received first place for sports feature writing, third place for feature writing, and honorable mention for sports news writing. She is a staff member of the Baker Orange, the student newspaper, and will serve as sports editor next fall. She is a 2001 graduate of Free State High School.
