The Iceman freezes the field at Thunderhill
Mayetta, Kan. ? The Topless Outlaw Racing Association presented by Trio Machine Inc. made their first of six trips to the lightning fast Thunderhill Speedway. The Iceman Delbert Smith made the most of it with his first A Feature win of the year.
The race began with pole-sitter Larry McDaniels taking the lead. Five laps later the yellow flag was displayed for the only time of the night as Chris Kratzer coasted to a stop in turn 1. The race restarted with McDaniels up front and Smith right behind. As the halfway point approached lapped traffic became a big issue as Smith and McDaniels often went 3 wide with another lap car to get around.
Finally on lap 20 Smith moved to the high side and shot past McDaniels to eventually take the win. McDaniels took second, Davey Nall in his first TORA appearance finished third, and Kyle Berck finished fourth.
In B Feature action Charlie Randolph took the lead from the start and won. Eddie Tidwell was second, Ryan McAninch third and Tom Grist fourth.
TORA racing action will continue June 21 at the Hutchinson Raceway Park followed by another show on June 22 at Thunderhill.
