Outlaws take 2nd

? The Lawrence Outlaws rebounded from losses in their first two games to reach the championship game of the USSSA Pepsi Challenge 18-and-under baseball tournament over the weekend.

The Outlaws fell to the Bartlesville Cubs, 12-4, in the final, but still earned a berth to the USSSA World Series July 21 in Juniper, Fla.

“It was a real good weekend,” Outlaws coach Ryan Goodwin said. “The kids really came together well. It was tough losing the first two, but to come all the way back showed a lot of heart.”

After losing to the Cubs, 5-3, and Garland, Texas, 7-6 in eight innings, on Friday, Lawrence ran off three straight wins.

The Outlaws run-ruled the Bartlesville Wildcats, 16-2, on Saturday, then beat the Coffeyville Rockies, 10-8, and Garland, 12-2, on Saturday.

Austin Engling had eight hits during the tournament, while David Allen, David Arndt and Cameron Taylor each had six hits.
