Former corner doesn’t really ‘hate’ KU

Turns out Andrew Davison is still a Jayhawk at heart.

The former Kansas University cornerback lashed out at his alma mater during an April 23 interview with the Journal-World after he signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent.

Davison, a four-year starter at KU, thought Kansas coaches should have done more to help him garner invitations to postseason all-star games and combines to help his draft prospects.

“I hate Kansas,” he said at the time. “There’s no way I should have been a free agent.”

Davison was in a better mood Monday during an unsolicited phone call to the Journal-World from the Jets’ mincamp at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.

“I want to set things straight,” said Davison, who made 51 tackles, intercepted three passes and broke up 12 more last season. “I don’t have any animosity toward Kansas. It was said in the heat of the moment.”

Davison plans to visit Lawrence before training camp in July.

“There’s a lot of good people up there,” he said. “I wish them nothing but the best of luck. Hopefully, they can turn it around.”
