Catharine L. DeVore

? Memorial services for Catharine L. DeVore, 87, El Dorado, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church of El Dorado. She was cremated.

Mrs. DeVore died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, El Dorado. She had lived in El Dorado since 1939, moving from Miami, Okla. She had also lived in Oil Hill.

She was born Feb. 15, 1915, in Bartlesville, Okla., the daughter of Earl C. and Ola B. (Bingler) Chaney. She graduated from Independence (Kan.) High School. She also graduated from Pittsburg State University and attended Kansas University.

Mrs. DeVore was a homemaker and church librarian for many years. She worked part-time for Cities Services oil company in El Dorado for more than 25 years.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of El Dorado and church circles at the church. She taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school. She also ministered to many families at the church by providing meals. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially on motorcycles. She also did gardening and china painting.

She married Arthur DeVore on Feb. 12, 1938, in Independence, Kan. He died April 11, 1998.

Survivors include two sons, Gary DeVore, El Dorado, and Jim DeVore, Lawrence; a daughter, Carolyn DeVore, Arlington, Tex.; two brothers, George Chaney, Albuquerque, N.M., and Earl Chaney, Independence, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials in her name to the church, and they may be sent in care of Kirby-Morris Funeral Home, 224 W. Ash, El Dorado 67042.
