The Lawrence City Band will perform eight concerts this summer in the William L. Kelly Band Stand in South Park, 11th and Massachusetts streets. The concerts begin at 8 p.m. and are free.

The lineup includes:

Wednesday: “The 2002 Season’s Grand Opening,” with music by Henry Mancini, John Philip Sousa, Leroy Anderson and Johannes Strauss and “Arioso” by Darren Jenkins, performed as a memorial to flutist Diane Burton Hammersky.

June 12: “Around the World in 60 Minutes,” with music from Austria, Italy, Spain, England, France, Japan, Mexico, Ireland, Russia, Czechoslovakia and the United States.

June 19: “Big Bands and Broadway,” with guest conductor retired U.S. Marines Col. John R. Bourgeosis, and musical and big-band era classics.

June 26: “A Concert Showcase,” conducted by retired U.S. Air Force Col. Arnald Gabriel and composer David Holsinger, with music featuring different sections of the band.

July 3: “Our Own Fourth of July Concert,” with traditional and patriotic music by Irving Berlin, Claude T. Smith, Carmen Dragon, Sousa and others.

July 10: “Annual Children’s Concert,” featuring soloist Chris Lair, narrator Bob Newton and a children’s march through the park.

July 17: “Fantasy,” music from “Fantasia,” “Lord of the Rings” and other selections.

July 24: “The Grand Finale Concert,” with alto saxophone soloist Vince Gnojek and such annual favorites as “The Stars and Stripes Forever” and the “1812 Overture” with cannon and fireworks.
