Salvation Army seeks help with homeless

Agency: Salvation Army

Address: 946 N.H.

Contact Person: Rebecca, 843-4188

The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers who are comfortable working with the homeless community for a variety of tasks.

The shelter opens for dinner at 9 p.m. and closes at 10 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It needs volunteers to arrive at 8:30 p.m. to warm up food and set place settings and then stay until 10:30 p.m. to clean up. The shelter encourages high-school age people and above, or families, to help, but asks that children not come unattended.

The shelter also needs volunteers to come in from 9 a.m. to noon, or from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, to help do laundry and sort canned goods for the shelter.

Last week’s results

Dawn Simmons from the Brandon Woods Retirement Community received two calls last week from volunteers. She said there was still plenty of work to be done socializing, leading activities and writing letters for elderly citizens there. She can be reached at 838-8000.
