Washington ? Chamique Holdsclaw returned to the Washington Mystics’ lineup, only to be upstaged by the Seattle Storm’s one-two punch.

Lauren Jackson had 25 points and 11 rebounds and Sue Bird added 21 as Seattle overcame Holdsclaw’s career-high 32 points in an 80-71 victory over the Mystics on Saturday night.

Bird and Jackson combined to score 22 of the Storm’s final 25 points, helping Seattle overcome a 2-for-13 start from the field in the first half and a 1-for-8 skid to begin the second.

“Lauren and I play well together. We’re starting to develop chemistry,” Bird said. “I think we complement each other. When we run the pick-and-roll, we’re hard to stop.”

Holdsclaw, who also had 11 rebounds, rejoined the Mystics after missing nine games with a high left ankle sprain sustained June 28. Washington, which has lost three straight and four of five, was 5-4 in her absence.

“It’s OK. It’s 99.5 percent,” Holdsclaw said of her ankle. “I can’t cut like I’d like, but I can go out there and still play. Hopefully ice and a couple of days off will take care of it.”

Shock 74, Sting 66

Charlotte, N.C. Swin Cash had 20 points and 10 rebounds to help Detroit snap a 17-game road losing streak. Elaine Powell added 18 points, and Deanna Nolan had 15 for the Shock (6-18), who were winless on the road since beating Portland on July 24, 2001.

Fire 71, Sol 61

Portland, Ore. Tamicha Jackson scored 14 points and Sylvia Crawley added 11 in Portland’s victory over Miami. The Fire (15-11) snapped a two-game losing streak in their lone home game in between two three-game road trips. Sheri Sam led the Sol (11-14) with 15 points.

Monarchs 79, Mercury 64

Phoenix Yolanda Griffith matched her season high with 22 points and Ruthie Bolton added 20 for Sacramento. The Monarchs (7-16) won their third consecutive game.
