Chicago ? Gary Glover only wished he could have gone a bit longer.

Glover gave one run and five hits in seven innings and Magglio Ordonez homered twice as the Chicago White Sox defeated the Kansas City Royals 9-1 Saturday night.

Glover (4-5) retired 10 straight at one point and won for the first time since June 27. Glover has never gone past seven innings.

“I kind of wanted to get back out there,” Glover said. “I always want to go nine, but I haven’t done it yet. I was thinking tonight may have been the night.”

Aaron Rowand added a two-run shot and Tony Graffanino also homered for the White Sox, who have outscored the Royals 19-3 in the opening two games of the series.

Kansas City has lost five in a row and six of seven since a nine-game winning streak. The Royals also have lost 22 of 27 on the road.

“We just have to keep going,” Royals manager Tony Pena. “If we play consistently, we have to play good on the road, and we have not been playing good on the road.”

Ordonez hit a solo homer in the third inning against Darrell May (2-7) and added a two-run shot in the eighth off Roberto Hernandez for his third multihomer game of the season and 11th of his career.

“He’s one of the most consistent players in the American League,” White Sox manager Jerry Manuel said. “Magglio is just a good player and outstanding right-handed hitter.”

Ordonez scored Chicago’s first run when he led off the second inning with a double and scored on an errant pickoff attempt by May.

Graffanino hit his sixth homer later in the inning to make it 2-0.

After Carlos Beltran hit an RBI single in the third, the White Sox scored three runs in the bottom half.

Willie Harris, starting his second game as Ray Durham’s replacement at second base, reached on a bunt single to lead off the inning. Rowand followed with his third homer to make it 4-1.

One out later, Ordonez hit his 21st home run of the season to left field to give the White Sox a 5-1 lead.

Sandy Alomar doubled and scored on Royce Clayton’s single in the sixth. May allowed six runs and nine hits in 5 1-3 innings.

“They were hitting the ball good and I was giving them good pitches to hit,” May said. “I was throwing batting practice more or less.”

Graffanino added an RBI single in the seventh and Ordonez hit his 22nd homer of the year in the eighth.

Notes: Ordonez is in a 23-for-50 stretch that has raised his average to .321. … The Royals have scored just six runs in the five games of their current road trip. … Todd Ritchie will miss his start Sunday for the White Sox with inflammation in his right shoulder. Rocky Biddle will go in his place.
