Orlando, Fla. ? Simone Edwards’ made a 15-foot shot with 32.9 seconds left, lifting the Seattle Storm to a 79-76 victory Thursday night over the Orlando Miracle.

Edwards hit the key basket after Orlando pulled to 74-73 on Pee Wee Johnson’s layup with 58 seconds remaining.

Seattle’s Lauren Jackson had a career-high 27 points, including three free throws in the final 20 seconds to keep Seattle (11-13) in front. Edwards finished with 18 points and nine rebounds.

“Hopefully this win will get us going,” Jackson said. “I felt like we needed a big game and I wanted to be a part of it. I didn’t know how many I had, I just knew that I was hot.”

The Australian was the top overall pick in the 2001 draft.

“Lauren’s tough,” Miracle coach Dee Brown said. “She’s 6-5 and she can put the ball on the floor. If we put our post players on her, she’d go right around them.”

Johnson led Orlando (10-13) with 17 points, and Wendy Palmer added 15 points and seven rebounds.

Monarchs 81, Fire 80, 2OT

Sacramento, Calif. Yolanda Griffith had 22 points and 14 rebounds and Sacramento scored all of its points on free throws in the second overtime.

The Monarchs (6-15) were 12-of-14 from the line in the second overtime. Ukari Figgs made a three-pointer in the final second to pull the Fire (14-11) within one point.

Griffith, 12-of-15 from the line, made four free throws in overtime as Sacramento won its second straight and fourth in six games.

Tangela Smith had 17 points, Ruthie Bolton scored 13 and Lady Grooms had 11 for the Monarchs, who are 2-1 this year in double-overtime games.

Figgs scored 22 points for Portland, which lost for only the third time in 13 games since June 26. The Fire’s other two losses have come to Los Angeles.

Rockers 83, Sting 73

Charlotte, N.C. Merlakia Jones scored 23 points, and Chasity Melvin had 15 points and 10 rebounds as Cleveland snapped a three-game losing streak. Ann Wauters added 18 points for the Rockers (9-15), who lost to the Sting 73-66 in overtime Wednesday. Andrea Stinson scored 14 points and Tammy Sutton-Brown added 12 for Charlotte (14-10), which lost for only the third time in 13 home games.

Shock 64, Mystics 58

Auburn Hills, Mich. Swin Cash had 17 points and eight rebounds as Detroit beat Eastern Conference-leading Washington. Astou Ndiaye-Diatta added 12 points and 12 rebounds to help the Shock (5-18) improve to 5-8 since former Pistons player Bill Laimbeer replaced Greg Williams as head coach. Vicky Bullett led the Mystics (15-8) with 15 points.

Comets 69, Sol 60

Houston Janeth Arcain scored 22 points as Houston won its 10th straight home game. Arcain made 9-of-14 shots from the floor, including 2-for-3 from three-point range, as Houston swept the two-game season series from Miami. Tina Thompson added 18 points for the Comets (19-6). Sheri Sam led the Sol (11-13) with 17 points.
