New daytime talk show may give Regis a run for his money

? Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa may soon have some new competition.

The syndication company King World has produced a pilot for a daytime talk show with former ABC correspondent Jack Ford and comic actress Alexandra Wentworth, the wife of George Stephanopoulos.

The pilot a sample installment was shot Wednesday in New York in front of a studio audience and will be shopped to stations as a daily program to be launched in the fall of 2003.

A King World spokesman declined to comment.

But a source familiar with the project said it was likely to draw comparisons to the highly popular “Live With Regis & Kelly.”

Wentworth, 36, is best known to TV viewers for her appearances on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” and was once a regular on the sketch-comedy series “In Living Color.”

Her husband is the former White House aide who will become the anchor of the ABC News Sunday program “This Week” in September.

Ford is still under contract with ABC News but is no longer appearing on any of the network’s programs. He is currently the host of ESPN’s “The Sports Reporters II.”
