Olathe: Prosecution opposes delay in Robinson trial

The trial of John E. Robinson Sr., accused of serial killings in Kansas and Missouri, should not be delayed again, Johnson County prosecutors say.

Robinson’s trial had been scheduled to begin Jan. 14, but it was delayed until Sept. 16 because he switched lawyers about a year ago.

Robinson’s lawyers last week asked for another delay, saying they needed more time to interview hundreds of witnesses and dig through a mountain of documents.

A hearing to review the motion is scheduled for today in Johnson County District Court.

Fort Scott: Teenager killed while collecting $20 debt

A 16-year-old has been charged with fatally stabbing a Lenexa teenager who authorities said was trying to collect a $20 debt from the sale of a bicycle.

Police said Hubert Kendall Danielson IV, 18, died in surgery after he was stabbed Monday night in Fort Scott as he fought with the 16-year-old boy.

Terri Johnson, the Bourbon County District Attorney, said the 16-year-old, whose name was not released, was charged Tuesday as a juvenile with one count of second-degree murder.

Witnesses told police a friend of Danielson’s had sold a bike to a friend of the 16-year-old suspect, and claimed to still be owed $20. Danielson and the suspect fought until Danielson was stabbed.

Pratt: Pratt County inmate found dead in jail cell

A woman being held on drug charges was found hanging in her jail cell days after her arrest, authorities said.

Pratt County Sheriff Vernon Chinn said Misty Dawn Hennessee, 20, of Iuka, was found dead Monday afternoon.

“She had used a sheet to hang herself,” Chinn said.

The sheriff’s department thought suicide was the cause of death, but the final autopsy report was not complete.
