Faria powers MetroStars past Wizards

? Rodrigo Faria scored twice and Mamadou Diallo added a goal as the New York-New Jersey MetroStars beat the Kansas City Wizards 3-1 on Wednesday night.

Faria opened the scoring for the MetroStars (9-8-2) in the 22nd minute, and added his eighth goal of the season in second-half injury time. Diallo scored his 10th goal off a centering pass from Faria to make it 2-0 in the 26th minute.

Igor Simutenkov drew Kansas City (6-6-7) within a goal in the 61st minute, scoring on a penalty kick after he was tackled from behind in the penalty area by defender Mike Petke.

There were nine yellow cards issued in the game, six to the MetroStars and three to the Wizards, with no ejections.
