Lawrence advances to World Series elimination round

? John Parker scattered eight singles and Nick Walters struck a key pinch-hit double to lift the Lawrence Renegades to a 6-3 win over the Kentucky Blue Grass Tribe on Tuesday in the USSSA World Series.

The triumph gave the Renegades a perfect 3-0 record in pool play and qualified them for today’s eight-team double-elimination round. Lawrence was to play at 10:45 a.m. today against an undetermined foe.

The Renegades, 23-12, snapped a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth with a four-run explosion that featured a pinch three-run double by Walters.

Bryan Engel had three singles in four at-bats for the Renegades. Spence Chaney was on base three times. He was hit by a pitch twice and singled, and scored two runs.

In boosting his record to 6-1, Parker fanned five and was able to overcome three errors by his teammates. The Kentucky team also committed three miscues.
