– Highway vandalism: Car windshield shattered on U.S. Highway 56

A Pomona man reported to Douglas County Sheriff’s officers Thursday that his car windshield was shattered when something was thrown from another car.

Officers located the other vehicle and questioned its occupants, and an investigation is continuing. Officers said they did not know whether the incident was connected to a series of similar incidents reported last month, Lt. Kathy Tate said.

The latest incident occurred about 5:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 56 at East 1000 Road. Officers located the suspect’s vehicle, a Ford Thunderbird in the area. The three occupants said an ear of corn had been thrown but they didn’t see the other vehicle, Tate said.

No arrests have been made.

Acting on a tip and armed with a search warrant, police went to an apartment in the 900 block of Kentucky Street where they confiscated several items “consistent with growing” mushrooms, Sgt. Mike Pattrick said. Officers also found mushrooms and an undisclosed amount of marijuana and cocaine, he said.

A 24-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man were arrested. Charges were pending, and the suspects were released on $7,500 bond.
