Panoz drivers win Washington GP

Washington Panoz drivers Jan Magnussen and David Brabham held off challenges from two Audi teams to win the American Le Mans Series’ inaugural Washington Grand Prix on Sunday.

Magnussen and Brabham beat the Audi team of Tom Kristensen and Rinaldo Capello by 0.766 seconds in the 2-hour, 45-minute race.

The Audi team of Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro finished third, eight seconds off the pace.

Russell first in top fuel

Morrison, Colo. Darrell Russell raced to his second Top Fuel victory of the season Sunday, beating Cory McClenathan in the final of the NHRA’s Mopar Parts Mile-High Nationals.

Russell had a quarter-mile run of 4.877 seconds at 301.07 mph, and McClenathan finished in 4.898 at 295.53.
