Jean Lucille Rickel

She was born Oct. 22, 1915, in Fairmont, the daughter of Walter Clarence and Edith Florine (Colborn) Walden.

Mrs. Rickel lived in Basehor until she moved to Lawrence in 1987. She sold insurance for State Farm from 1937 to 1945, when she became a homemaker. She attended nurses training at Cushing Memorial Hospital in Leavenworth and volunteered at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of Merry Matrons of Basehor, Holy Angels Catholic Church Altar Society, Corpus Christi Church Guild, Forever Young Club, the local chapter of AARP, and Widows and Widowers Club of Lawrence. She was also president of the Basehor PTA for three years and president of Basehor High Booster Club.

She married Carl W. Rickel on June 2, 1945, in Basehor. He died Feb. 4, 1974.

Survivors include a daughter, Carlena Haney, Lawrence; a son, William C. Rickel, Pittsburg; and four grandchildren.
