“Lullaby of Broadway” is a knockout of a show.

The Broadway revue swept the audience off its feet Sunday night at the Lied Center with gorgeous harmonies and strong solos and jazzy and percussive dance numbers.

The cast’s accomplishment was tremendous in light of the fact that the show had been performed only once before in front of an audience. For weeks, producers Don Hite and Shane Scheel (who lives in Lawrence), cast members, choreographers and musicians had been practicing at the Eldridge Hotel and the Dance Academy. They came from across the nation and carried with them the highest credentials any show could hope for: Radio City Rockette, Juilliard School, the Tony Award-winning revival of “Cabaret,” and on and on.

Highlights were many, but here are a few:

 A medley of songs from “Evita” that featured the volcanic voice of Lawrence native Kirsten Paludan on “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” and the ringing tenor of Manoel Felciano, an original cast member of the recent revival of “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

 “Taint Nobody’s Business If I Do,” Billie Holiday’s bluesy classic that was belted out by Paludan and Kansas University student Bree Bruns.

 “Stars and the Moon,” a poignant ballad delivered perfectly by New York City singer Meredith Inglesby.

 A “Stomp”-like dance using floor brushes, garbage cans and plastic pails that featured the lightning-fast drumming of Kevin Trevino.
