County to rethink driveway policy

An increasing number of homes in rural Douglas County may mean fewer driveways off county roads.

Monday morning, county commissioners will consider amending the county’s regulations to allow adjoining properties to share access to county roads, which are becoming busier as the city expands.

The proposal will be considered during the commission’s 9 a.m. meeting at the county courthouse, 1100 Mass.

Also on the agenda:

Appoint Paula Phillips, the county’s emergency management director, to oversee spending $50,000 of federal money to acquire equipment that would be used to respond to acts of terrorism. Spending plans would be considered later.

Hear a presentation about fair housing.

Consider a revised site plan for Heritage Baptist Church, to be located at the southwest corner of North 1800 and East 800 roads.

Approve next year’s $279,413 budget for community corrections.

Approve transfer of ownership of a lot in the East Hills Business Park from the county to Douglas County Development Inc., which plans to use the property for construction of a speculative building. The county would be reimbursed for the cost of the lot once the building was sold; DCDI would take over responsibility of tax payments once the site was transferred from county ownership.
