New York City: Rotting produce hides 525 pounds of cocaine

Three men were arrested after trying to smuggle hundreds of pounds of cocaine in crates of rotting onions, a ploy to hide the contraband from drug-sniffing dogs, police said Friday.

The suspects, all Colombian nationals, were arrested July 2 and remained in custody Friday. Police said some 525 pounds of cocaine were confiscated.

Authorities said they had been monitoring the men for several months before they spotted them unloading the produce boxes from a van.

Wisconsin: Huge building collapses

Part of an enormous Wisconsin printing plant collapsed Friday night and caught fire, sending flames billowing into the sky, authorities said.

There were people working inside the Quad/Graphics printing plant at the time and there were injuries, though officials did not know how serious they were. The plant has about 1,800 employees.

The company describes the building as the largest printing facility in the Western Hemisphere. It’s about 2 million square feet in Lomira, about 45 miles northwest of Milwaukee.
