Anniversaries

Allen

Jean Saffell and Roger Allen, Lawrence, were married July 12, 1952, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Wichita.

They will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in July with a private family gathering.

Attending will be their children and grandchildren: Chuck Allen, wife Renee, Kristen and Kimberly, San Antonio, and Melissa, St. Louis; Chad Allen, wife Sherri, Samantha, Overland Park, and Shaun, Merriam; Tim Allen, wife Patty, Chip and Libby, Lawrence; and Tom Allen, Sarasota and Topeka. Also attending will be great-grandson Tyler, San Antonio.

Also attending will be Jean’s sister, Pat Siemens, and husband Joe, of Spokane, Wash.

Jean received her bachelor of fine arts from Kansas University, then taught art courses at Marymount College in Salina. Returning to a faculty position in the design department of the KU Fine Arts School, she obtained her master’s degree in design.

She later taught various design and art classes at Haskell Indian Nations University for 16 years before retiring in 1987.

Roger received his bachelor of science degree in geological engineering from KU.

He was employed by Cities Service Oil Co., then returned to Lawrence in management of The Fritz Company, a major tire, battery and auto service station. He later worked with the Kansas Department of Transportation as a civil engineer, retiring in 1987.

Heacock

Darlene and Robert Heacock, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th anniversary with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 20 at First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Drive.

They were married July 17, 1952, in Winfield.

Robert graduated from Kansas University in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. He retired from the FMC Corp. in July 1995 as senior project engineer after 26 years.

Darlene retired in July 1995 from KU after 29 years. She was office manager for Russian and East European studies.

The couple’s children are Doug Heacock, Teresa Gottstein and Anne Munsterman, Lawrence; and Brad Heacock, Lee’s Summit, Mo.

The couple request no gifts.

Johnson

Marcia and Rodger Johnson, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence.

They were married July 12, 1952, in St. James, Minn., after meeting at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn.

Mr. Johnson spent his career in hospital administration, including 1959-1969 as administrator and CEO of Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

They have four children: Khristine Lee, Lawrence; Timothy Johnson, Littleton, Colo.; Laurel Olson, Madison, N.J., and Brian Johnson, Redding, Calif.

They have 10 grandchildren.

Purvis

Frank and Rachel Purvis, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception for family and friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. July 21 in Fellowship Hall at the First United Methodist Church, Lawrence.

Frank Purvis and Rachel Duell were married Nov. 1, 1952, in the Methodist Church in Kanorado.

The hosts of the reception will be their children: Mark and Shannon Purvis, Novato, Calif.; Dwight and Kimberly Purvis, Charlottesville, Va.; and Neal and Jenny Purvis, Lawrence.

Statler

Eldon and Charlene Statler, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 21 at the American Legion, 3408 W. Sixth St.

Eldon Statler and Charlene Revey were married July 24, 1952, in Bentonville, Ark.

Eldon served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Sunflower Ammunition Army Plant in 1994. Charlene worked in banking, retiring in 1994 after 34 years of service. Charlene also has been a Longaberger Basket consultant since 1985.

Their children will be host to the event: Carolyn and Rick Durrant, and Nancy and Greydon Walker. They have seven granddaughters and have been foster grandparents to many children.

The couple request no gifts.

Lang

Robert and Shirley Lang, Overbrook, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a private family party.

Robert Lang and Shirley Jones were married July 12, 1952, in Kansas City, Kan. They have resided in the Overbrook area for the past 40 years.

Their children are: Larry Lang, Harold Lang, Leo Lang, John Lang and Roberta Peterson, Overbrook; Leanne

Arnold, Lawrence; and Tom Lang, Michigan Valley. They have 20 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
