Outlaws sweep KC 199

? Lawrence’s Outlaws swept an 18-under American Legion baseball doubleheader with Kansas City Post 199 on Wednesday that featured a bizarre conclusion.

After winning the opening game, 3-1, the Outlaws were ahead 7-4 in the nightcap when a bench-clearing brawl took place in the top of the seventh inning. After the KC Post 199 pitcher was ejected, the team only had eight players remaining and the game was called because of American Legion rules.

“It’s probably the best doubleheader we’ve put together in a long time,” Lawrence coach Ryan Goodwin said of the sweep. “The team played hard and came out wanting to win some ball games. It was fun to be at the ball yard except for that last incident.”

The Outlaws (12-20) play host to KC Post 83 in one nine-inning game at 7 tonight at Ice Field.
