United Way seeks nominations for award

The United Way of Douglas County is seeking nominations for its annual Wallace Galluzzi Volunteer Award. The award, created in 1985, recognizes volunteers serving nonprofit organizations in Douglas County. New this year is a Youth Volunteer Award.

The award is named after Wally Galluzzi, who was an active community leader serving several terms on the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce board of directors, the United Way board of directors and several other organizations. He was president of Haskell Indian Nations University from 1968 to 1981.

Nomination forms are available by contacting the Roger Hill Volunteer Center at 865-5030 or by e-mail at rhvc@ixks.com. Anyone can nominate a deserving volunteer. Nominations are due by July 22. The awards will be presented at the Day of Caring event on Sept. 14.
