Nebraska flash flood kills trucker on I-80
OGALLALA, NEB. ? A truck caught in flash flooding in drought-stricken western Nebraska plunged off the eastbound approach to a bridge on Interstate 80 and the driver was killed.
The Nebraska State Patrol identified the driver as William B. Baucam, 46, of Dallas, N.C.
The 10-inch rainfall Saturday also prompted evacuation of at least two mobile home parks southeast of Ogallala, flooded businesses near the interstate and temporarily closed a section of the highway from North Platte to Big Springs, Nebraska’s major east-west thoroughfare.
Gov. Mike Johanns declared a state of emergency, freeing state money to help assess and repair damage to public facilities. He planned to travel today to Ogallala.
