County clerk extends office hours for voter registration

With just a little more than two weeks until the deadline, Patty Jaimes said she hadn’t seen many Douglas County residents racing to her office to register to vote.

“There’s not a large amount registering now,” said Jaimes, Douglas County county clerk. “The bigger push comes before the general election.”

Jaimes said about 54,000 out of Douglas County’s 105,000 residents were already registered. The deadline to register to vote in the Aug. 6 primary is July 22.

Douglas County residents can register to vote by going to the Douglas County Clerk’s Office at the Douglas County Courthouse from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. On July 18, 19 and 22, the office will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. to give people more time to register.

Residents also have the opportunity to register when renewing their driver’s licenses.

A voter registration application can be downloaded online at www.douglas-county.com/Clerk/vote.asp. It must be printed and taken to the clerk’s office.
