Duncan

Ernest and Elizabeth Duncan, Lawrence, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 14 in Building 2 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

They were married July 16, 1942, in Lawrence.

The couple have four children, Wayne Duncan, Topeka; Sandy Casey, Lyndon; Bruce Duncan and Rhonda Duncan-Shreve, both of Lawrence. They also have four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The couple request no gifts.

Kennedy

Bernard and Bernice Kennedy, Lawrence, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house with family from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

They also will have a weekend get-together this fall in Table Rock Lake, Mo.

Bernard Kennedy and Bernice Goff were married July 5, 1942, in Lawrence before Bernard left to serve during World War II. They have lived most of their life in Lawrence. They lived a few years in Bennet Springs, Mo.

Their children are Bernard and Janice Kennedy, and Carolyn and John Kirby, all of Lawrence; and Rory and Sandee Kennedy, Baldwin. They have 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Powell

John and Marva Lee Powell, Lecompton, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Croco Square, 6115 S.E. Highway 40, Topeka.

John Powell and Marva Lee Kreipe were married July 5, 1952, in the Oakland Methodist Church in Topeka.

Hosts will be their daughters, Jenny Powell, Valley Falls; Jolene Bickel, Meriden; Julie Powell, Lecompton; and Jill Powell, Perry. The couple have five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The couple request no gifts.

Swoyer

James and Martha Ann Swoyer, Oskaloosa, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 14 at the American Legion Hall in Oskaloosa.

They were married July 13, 1952, in the Hickman Mills Christian Church. They both attended Kansas University Law School and have lived in Oskaloosa since their marriage.

Jim began practicing law in Oskaloosa with his father in 1952. He served as the Jefferson County attorney for 13 years. Martha Ann taught school with the Winchester/Jefferson County North School districts for many years before joining Swoyer & Swoyer Law Practice. They owned the County Seat Variety Store in Oskaloosa for 22 years.

They have one son, Karl Swoyer, Winchester, and his wife, Melynda. They have four grandchildren.
